Job summary

The University of Sydney is offering two Full-time, three-year fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Associate positions on an ARC-funded project in carbon-neutral energy demand forecasting, in partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Based at Camperdown, you will develop and apply an agent-based demand model within the DEEPSyM-Grid platform.

Qualifications

• PhD or near completion in power/energy related field.
• Strong expertise in demand modelling, energy systems optimisation, agent-based modelling, or techno-economic forecasting.
• Proficiency in scientific programming (Julia, Python or Matlab).
• Experience with energy modelling tools (PLEXOS is a plus).
• Ability to conduct high-quality research independently and in collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain an agent-based and engineering-driven demand forecasting framework within the DEEPSyM-Grid platform.
• Undertake scenario-based analysis and quantify uncertainty in demand projections.
• Engage with industry stakeholders to co-design modelling assumptions and outputs.
• Align demand modelling with supply-side system planning tools in collaboration with industry partners.
• Disseminate research through high-quality journal articles, conference papers, workshops, and policy briefings.
