Job summary

The Port of Townsville is seeking an Operator/Labourer to support the Maintenance team in keeping port infrastructure and assets in top condition. You will perform preventative maintenance, assist with repairs and operate plant and equipment under supervision.

This role requires manual handling, a White Card and a current driver's licence, with commitment to safety and quality as you help keep port operations running smoothly and safely.

Qualifications

• Mandatory manual handling and safe working practices.
• Experience in marine infrastructure maintenance is preferred.
• Ability to read engineering plans and manuals.
• Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain wharves and equipment, boat ramps, moorings and navigational aids.
• Operate floating plant, mobile plant and machinery.
• Carry out structural/mechanical repairs and installations on port plant and services.
• Ensure prompt repair of breakdowns to plant as they arise.
• Provide records of time and materials, prepare material lists and check sheets.
• Suggest improvements to maintenance methods and work practices.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs, TAKE 5 and JSEA requirements.
• Perform periodic inspections and tests of emergency equipment.
• Participate in port emergency responses and training as required.
• Adhere to health, safety, environmental and information security policies.
• Contribute to strategic plans and continual improvement initiatives.
