ClubsNSW is seeking a policy professional to support state and national advocacy across liquor, gaming, taxation and regulatory matters in NSW and nationally. The role targets 1–3 years’ experience, with scope to grow across policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
You will monitor developments, conduct research, prepare submissions and engage with government agencies, regulators and industry bodies, contributing to member communications and guidance.
ClubsNSW is the peak body for registered clubs across NSW. We work at the centre of major policy and regulatory issues affecting the sector, engaging directly with government, regulators and industry to secure practical outcomes for clubs and their communities.
We also provide the policy function for Clubs Australia, the national body representing state and territory club associations, advocating on shared priorities and federal issues affecting clubs.
Our policy portfolio spans state and national issues. Key areas include, in NSW, liquor and gaming regulation, registered clubs legislation, state taxation, planning and land use, housing and development, ClubGRANTS, live music, and numerous other operational and compliance matters. Nationally, the focus includes federal taxation and AML/CTF, together with privacy, payment systems, workplace relations, and skills and training.
This role would suit a recent graduate or policy professional with approximately 1 to 3 years’ experience who is looking to develop their skills across policy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement. It offers the chance to build a policy career outside the traditional public service path, with exposure to a wide range of issues, decision-makers and opportunities for growth.
Monitor policy, legislative, regulatory and political developments, identifying what they mean for clubs and where action is needed.
Conduct research and analysis on policy issues and contribute to the development of submissions, briefing notes, correspondence and other advocacy materials.
Support engagement with government agencies, regulators, local councils, state club associations and industry bodies.
Assist in preparing member communications and guidance materials on policy, legislative and regulatory changes.
Respond to member enquiries and support clubs in navigating policy and regulatory issues.
Contribute to projects, consultations and advocacy initiatives through research, stakeholder engagement and analysis.
Build awareness and understanding of industry trends and emerging issues affecting the club sector.
A keen interest in public policy, government decision making and the legislative process.
Demonstrated research and analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex issues and identify practical implications.
Very good written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely to different audiences.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
A willingness to learn, take initiative and contribute positively to team outcomes.
An interest in working with member-based organisations and understanding the issues that impact clubs.
A tertiary qualification in public policy, political science, law, economics or another relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
Previous experience in a government department, agency, or political office is desirable but not essential.
You will join an experienced, collaborative team in an organisation where policy has a direct voice in decision-making. The role will broaden your experience across industry advocacy, executive and board advice, government relations, member engagement and national policy coordination.
