Job summary

NSW Health in Tamworth is seeking a Podiatrist Level 1/2 for a temporary full-time position until May 2028. The role covers high‑risk foot care, neurovascular assessments, wound care and nail surgery, supported by a multidisciplinary team, including telehealth options.

You will work within the New England region's podiatry service, collaborating with senior staff and receiving mentorship and scheduled professional development.

Qualifications

• Podiatrist with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA.
• Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness to travel within the Local Health District.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-risk foot clinical skills across the full scope of podiatry.
• Perform neurovascular assessments (toe-brachial indices) and wound care.
• Manage Charcot-neuroarthropathy, critical limb ischemia and nail surgery; provide inter-disciplinary care and telehealth support.

The New England Podiatry service provides Podiatry care to a number of key sites in the New England region with the support of the Royal Flying Doctors Service. The team has a strong commitment to Closing the Gap and, together with their Aboriginal Health Practitioner, received an award for the Healthy Deadly Feet Program.

This program was rolled out by the Ministry of Health in 2019 and aims to reduce preventable amputations in the community through providing high risk foot care to patients with acute foot pathologies. Tamworth is one of only two sites in New South Wales who were successful in kicking off the Healthy Deadly Feet Program - we are proud of the part we have played in having a purposeful impact on Aboriginal communities.

The Opportunity

This position is suitable for a motivated Podiatrist looking to develop their high-risk foot clinical skills. The role covers all aspects of Podiatry and includes seeing patients for neurovascular assessments (including toe brachial indices on every patient), wound care, Charcot-neuroarthropathy management, critical limb ischemia, general care and nail surgery. You will enjoy an exciting and varied workload, with a high level of clinical complexity.

The team works with multiple specialities both face to face and via telehealth to provide better outcomes for our patients. This position will be well supported by our passionate team, which includes a Level 4 Senior podiatrist and a Level 1/2 podiatrist, through regular group and individual supervision. You will be introduced to the case load on a graded basis and will be provided on the job support and mentorship as required. Support will be provided based on the needs of the most suitable candidate. Monthly team meetings include professional development opportunities, as well as annual professional development with the tertiary hospital podiatry team.

Support and mentorship will allow you to develop your skills in the management of high-risk foot complications.This is an ideal role for a Podiatrist who is looking for experience in rural and regional practice as well as inter-disciplinary care
