Reporting to the Primary Healthcare Manager - Nursing & Community Health Services, the role combines advanced clinical work with service development, requiring travel to remote sites

Royal Flying Doctor Service - Melbourne VIC

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) is seeking an experienced Senior Podiatrist to lead the delivery of high-quality podiatry services across Far North Queensland. This is a unique opportunity to shape a new service from the ground up, working within a multidisciplinary outreach model to improve access to specialist foot care for communities that have historically had limited access to podiatry services. Based in Cairns, you'll provide expert clinical care across the lifespan, collaborate with local Health and Hospital Services, and help build pathways that improve health outcomes for some of Queensland's most vulnerable communities. This position forms part of a strategic partnership between local Hospital and Health Service and the Royal Flying Doctors Service (Queensland Section), designed to strengthen access to podiatry services across rural communities in the north and north west.

About the Role

Reporting to the Primary Healthcare Manager - Nursing & Community Health Services, the Senior Podiatrist will play a pivotal role in establishing and delivering a contemporary outreach podiatry service across Far North and North Western Queensland.

This position combines advanced clinical practice with service development, offering the opportunity to influence how podiatry care is delivered within remote communities while building strong relationships with health partners across the region.

The role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, working 16 shifts across a four-week roster. Enjoy a Monday to Friday roster while working a four-day week. This diverse role will see you travel across multiple sites throughout the Far North and North West regions, including community clinics and hospitals. With a mix of outreach and clinical settings, occasional overnight travel may be required, offering variety and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across rural and remote communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive podiatry services within a multidisciplinary outreach model.
• Provide assessment, treatment and management of both general and high-risk foot conditions.
• Establish and develop a new podiatry service and associated clinical pathways.
• Collaborate with RFDS clinicians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, allied health professionals and partner health services.
• Develop culturally responsive care plans that support holistic patient outcomes.
• Utilise virtual care and outreach service models to improve accessibility.
• Contribute to health promotion, prevention and community education initiatives.
• Participate in service improvement, clinical governance and quality activities.
• Build strong relationships with Cairns, North West and Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Services and specialist high-risk foot services.

About You

To be successful, you will be an experienced podiatrist who is passionate about improving health outcomes in regional, rural and remote Australia.

• Registration as a Podiatrist with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated experience managing a broad caseload, including high-risk foot presentations.
• Strong clinical reasoning skills and the ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capabilities.
• A collaborative approach to multidisciplinary care.
• Experience within public health, community health or outreach services will be highly regarded.
