Job description

Bring your plumbing experience to Cairns

Ready for your next move in plumbing education? Join an experienced Cairns team, with multiple permanent full time opportunities, timetables planned ahead and dedicated time for preparation and administration.

We’re keen to hear from experienced plumbing teachers who enjoy bringing the trade to life. We’re also open to licensed plumbers who have enjoyed guiding apprentices and are ready to make teaching their next career step.

A clear picture of your working week

Your weekly structure includes 21 teaching contact hours, 11 hours for administration and 4.25 hours of discretionary preparation time, which can be completed on or off campus. Timetables and planners are provided well in advance.

You’ll deliver practical workshop and classroom training, assess student competency and provide feedback that helps students improve. You’ll also prepare lessons, maintain student records and contribute to training resources, with safe work practices central to your teaching.

Cairns will be your home campus. Some regional travel may be required, with work travel, accommodation and meals covered.

What you’ll bring
  • Certificate III in Plumbing, relevant current licences and recent industry experience
  • Ideally, a recognised TAE qualification completed or currently underway
  • The ability to explain technical work clearly and engage different learners
  • Sound digital literacy and numeracy, and confidence completing student records
  • A practical, approachable manner and willingness to work with the team
Already teaching or ready to make the move?

If you’re an experienced educator, bring your delivery and assessment skills, share your ideas and contribute to an established team.

If you’re moving from industry, experience mentoring apprentices or training colleagues is a valuable starting point. Applicants with their TAE completed or underway are preferred. A supported entry pathway may also be considered for the right tradesperson who hasn’t yet started.

Structured induction, mentoring and a dedicated educator support team will help you settle into the role and develop your teaching practice.
