Job summary

W3Global in Australia is seeking a PLC & Control Systems Engineer to join our automation team delivering solutions across mining, power, and renewable energy sectors. You will design, program, commission, and support PLC-based control systems for diverse industrial applications.

You will collaborate with electrical, instrumentation, and project teams, perform FAT/SAT, and prepare technical documentation. A degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering with strong PLC experience

Qualifications

  • Experience in mining, power generation, or renewable energy sectors.
  • Strong PLC programming and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience integrating PLC systems with SCADA and HMI.
  • Familiarity with Phoenix Contact PLCs PLCnext is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and Australian work rights.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, program, and commission PLC-based control systems.
  • Develop and modify PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimise industrial automation systems.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and site acceptance activities.
  • Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, and project engineering teams.
  • Prepare technical documentation including functional design specifications, I/O lists, testing procedures, and commissioning reports.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and in accordance with client specifications.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced PLC & Control Systems Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering automation and control solutions across the mining, power, and renewable energy sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for an automation professional with strong PLC programming and industrial control systems experience who enjoys working on complex industrial projects.

As part of a leading systems integration team, you will be involved in the design, programming, commissioning, and support of PLC-based automation systems for a variety of industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, program, and commission PLC-based control systems.
  • Develop and modify PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and optimise industrial automation systems.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and site acceptance activities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering.
  • Proven experience working within the mining, power generation, or renewable energy industries.
  • Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Phoenix Contact PLCs (PLCnext) is highly desirable and will be viewed favourably.
  • Experience integrating industrial control systems with SCADA and HMI platforms.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, or OPC.
  • Excellent fault-finding and commissioning skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Australian work rights and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
