Job summary

Transport for NSW in the Bega region seeks a Plant Operator to support road maintenance and infrastructure projects. You will operate skid steer and other plant equipment, perform pre-start inspections and basic maintenance, and help deliver a safe, reliable road network for communities.

The role operates on a camp-away arrangement with Sunday–Friday shifts and an RDO each month; some flexibility is required. A strong safety focus and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Current Australian motor vehicle driver's licence (Class C); minimum requirement: Provisional P1.
  • Construction Industry White Card.
  • Traffic Controller Card or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
  • Work Zone Traffic Management qualification or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills to complete work records.

Responsibilities

  • Operate skid steer and other plant equipment to support road construction and maintenance projects.
  • Undertake pre-start inspections and basic plant maintenance.
  • Carry out traffic management duties and related operational tasks.
  • Contribute to safe, efficient delivery of regional road infrastructure.

In this role, you'll:

Working as part of the Regional Maintenance team, you'll contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of road maintenance and infrastructure activities across the region.

This role will see you operating skid steer and other plant equipment to support road construction and maintenance projects, while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and quality standards.

You’ll undertake pre-start inspections, basic plant maintenance, traffic management activities, and a range of operational tasks that contribute to keeping communities connected through a safe and reliable road network.

The role also offers opportunities to broaden your plant operating capabilities and build a long-term career within Transport for NSW.

You will drive operational excellence and safe work practices in a dynamic field-based environment, helping deliver essential road infrastructure outcomes for regional communities.

Please note, this role primarily operates on a camp-away arrangement, with most work performed from Sunday afternoon to Friday evening. Flexibility to work outside these hours as required is essential. Employees receive one RDO per month.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, working across different locations, and embracing new challenges.

The role also undertakes a range of Road Worker Grade 3 duties when required.

As part of the recruitment process for this role, shortlisted candidates will be required to participate in a practical assessment to demonstrate their ability to safely operate relevant plant, vehicles and equipment.

About You

Your experience operating heavy vehicles, skid steer, plant equipment or working within civil construction, road maintenance, construction, transport operations or a related industry will see you excel in delivering safe and efficient maintenance activities, overcoming day-to-day operational challenges and contributing to quality road infrastructure outcomes.

You're recognised as a reliable and safety-focused team member, skilled at operating plant and equipment, completing work records, undertaking pre-start inspections, maintaining accurate documentation and working collaboratively with others. Experience operating skid steer, heavy vehicles or similar plant machinery will be highly regarded.

To be successful in this role, you will hold:
  • Current Australian motor vehicle driver's licence (Class C); minimum requirement: Provisional P1.
  • A current Construction Industry White Card
  • Traffic Controller Card (Implement Traffic Control Plan) or the willingness to obtain within 3 months
  • Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management qualification or the willingness to obtain within 3 months
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills to complete work records and communicate effectively with the work team
  • A willingness to undertake any legislated or internal licensing, ticketing or certification requirements as directed.

You will bring a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance and quality outcomes, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic field-based environment.
