Are you passionate about shaping the future of a vibrant, growing community? Randstad has partnered with Melton City Council on a retained basis to find two enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals to join their City Growth and Development team as a Planner.

These are incredible three-year contract opportunities that are perfect for candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning (or a related discipline) who has zero to two years of planning experience. If you're eager to learn, and make an impact in a major growth area in Melbourne, this is the opportunity for you!

The Position

As a Planner, you'll be instrumental in delivering essential urban planning services across the City of Melton. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Efficiently assessing planning applications and providing technical advice related to the Melton Planning Scheme.
  • Assessing a broad ranges of applications such as residential, minor subdivisions, commercial, industrial, change of use, and various miscellaneous applications like VicSmart, signage, native vegetation removal, and liquor licenses.
  • Assist and partner with Senior and Principal Planners on complex and larger development applications
  • Building strong, cooperative relationships with residents, developers, consultants, and internal Council teams.
  • Working with a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement to ensure legislative obligations and strategic objectives are met.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for two Planners who are genuinely passionate about planning and demonstrates a strong willingness to learn and embrace new opportunities.

Key Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
  • 0-2 years of experience in the urban planning field.
  • An understanding of the planning system in Victoria.
  • Full working rights in Australia (must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills for engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders from residents to developers.
  • Personable and Engaging: A positive attitude and the ability to gain cooperation and build relationships to achieve the best planning outcomes.
  • Organised: Excellent time management skills and a high attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all work.
  • Pro-active: Dedicated, open, and honest, with a strong ability to solve problems and operate with initiative.
