Job description

CPB Contractors is Australia’s leading contractor and the largest infrastructure construction company in our region. Part of the CIMIC Group, we are proud to be constructing Australia’s future and do so collaboratively with our partners and clients.

We hire for careers, not project life. CPB Contractors has more than 50 major infrastructure projects in delivery, across all key sectors of the construction industry, including roads and bridges, rail, tunnelling, defence, airports, buildings and resources, providing you with career opportunities for years to come.

The Project

CPB Contractors along with our industry partners has been selected as preferred proponent to deliver two major packages for the Cross River Rail Projects: the Tunnel, Stations and Development (TSD) package and the Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) package. Cross River Rail is a new 10.2 kilometre rail line from Dutton Park to Bowen Hills, which includes 5.9 kilometres of tunnel under the Brisbane River and the CBD.

The RIS package is crucial to the overall delivery and success of Cross River Rail, and its integration with the Queensland Rail network. RIS will be delivered by the UNITY Alliance which brings CPB Contractors, UGL, AECOM and Jacobs.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Planner to support the planning function on a significant rail infrastructure project. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in construction, civil engineering or project delivery who is looking to build their knowledge of project planning, scheduling and project controls.

Working closely with experienced planners, engineers and construction personnel, you will gain hands‑on exposure to construction programmes, progress tracking, schedule updates and project reporting.

This is a full‑time, office and site‑based role, suited to someone who enjoys working collaboratively with different teams, is comfortable spending time on site and is eager to learn. You will receive guidance and support to develop your technical capabilities, planning knowledge and long‑term career prospects within major infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development, maintenance and updating of construction programmes, including supporting Primavera P6 schedules and other project planning systems.
  • Monitor construction progress by gathering information from site teams, reviewing completed activities and ensuring programme updates accurately reflect progress on the ground.
  • Support the preparation of project progress reports, schedule updates and performance tracking to assist the wider project delivery team.
  • Work closely with engineers, construction personnel, subcontractors and the planning team to understand upcoming activities, resource requirements and potential programme impacts.
  • Assist with identifying project risks, delays and opportunities for improvement, escalating issues to senior planning personnel where required.
  • Participate in planning workshops, project coordination meetings and professional development opportunities to build your understanding of project scheduling, construction methodologies and project controls.
Key Requirements
  • 3+ years’ experience in construction, civil engineering, rail, building or infrastructure, ideally in a Graduate Engineer, Site Engineer, Project Engineer, construction or trade‑based role.
  • Strong knowledge of construction programmes and scheduling software, such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project or similar.
  • A genuine interest in project planning, scheduling and maintaining project schedules, with a strong willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with office‑based and site‑based teams.
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem‑solving, managing information and meeting deadlines.
  • Understanding of WBS, EVM, performance reporting, project controls and change management.

We particularly welcome and encourage applications from Indigenous Peoples, women, the LGBTQ+ community, mature workers, Veterans and active‑duty armed forces, people with disabilities and people from different cultural backgrounds. CPB Contractors is proud to hold the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Citation - Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.

We’re always looking for ways to make CPB Contractors a more rewarding place to work and offer a unique set of benefits, including:

  • A rewarding career where we support your development, training and promote from within.
  • Opportunities across all construction sectors so that there is always an opportunity suitable for the next stage in your career.
  • Competitive remuneration and excellent benefits including a health and wellbeing program, discount portal and company‑funded salary continuance insurance.
  • Flexible work arrangements and a culture that values diversity and innovation.

Please note: This role is being sourced through CPB Contractors directly and we will not accept applications via external recruitment agencies.
