Job summary

Purple House in Alice Springs, NT, is seeking a physiotherapist to join our multidisciplinary primary healthcare team. The role focuses on promoting function, independence, and quality of life for patients with complex chronic conditions.

You will work within a culturally safe, Aboriginal-led organization, providing assessment, treatment, education, and coordinated care across services. A Bachelor or Master of Physiotherapy and Australian registration are required.

We are run by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people and work to provide culturally appropriate health, aged care and general support services in regional and remote communities, helping people to get home to country and family.

About the Role

The Physiotherapist works within the multidisciplinary Primary Healthcare team, providing services to clients to promote function, independence, and quality of life.

Key responsibilities

  • Management of physiotherapy needs for a caseload of patients with multiple, complex, chronic diseases
  • Helping patients manage chronic diseases or acute physical injuries
  • Educating patients about movement and exercise to improve mobility and enhance their quality of life, including advice regarding injury and disease progression prevention.
  • Providing targeted massages and joint manipulation
  • Writing reports for doctors and other medical specialists
  • Coordinate with internal physical and social health care teams to ensure care is holistic, strengths-based, and consistent.
  • Use clear and concise means of communication to work collaboratively and ensure a multidisciplinary approach to health care
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and communication pathways with external health practitioners and services who may be involved with mutual patients.
  • Utilise a recall system to ensure patients' physio needs are met in a timely manner
  • Maintain patient records to a high standard, including progress notes and records of communication with or regarding patients
  • Liaise closely with direct manager for assistance and advice when required and partake in regular team meetings
  • Promote a safe work environment in accordance with legislative requirements, adhere to Work Health Safety guidelines, and reports all incidents and near misses.
  • Other duties as required within level and trained capacity

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor or Masters of Physiotherapy
  • Registration with the National Physiotherapy Board of Australia.
  • Understanding and experience working within the primary healthcare system
  • Effective communication cross-culturally and professionally, including well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working as a sole clinician

Highly Desirable

  • Experience working with people with end-stage renal failure and a range of complex co-morbidities; including working in areas of aged care, chronic disease, musculoskeletal issues, and disabilities
