Macquarie University in Sydney is seeking a highly qualified philosopher to join the Theory and Methods in Bioscience group within the Philosophy Discipline for a 3-year fixed-term appointment. The appointee will collaborate with researchers from Macquarie, University of Sydney and beyond to develop an integrative framework linking biological fitness, environment, and health.

The role requires a PhD in Philosophy with expertise in philosophy of biology and evolutionary biology, a record of

Qualifications

• PhD in Philosophy (awarded) or another field relevant to the research project.
• Demonstrated expertise in Philosophy of Biology and/or Theoretical Biology, with a specific focus on evolutionary biology.
• A strong track record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals at the intersection of philosophy of biology and evolutionary biology.
• Proven ability to conduct highly interdisciplinary research bridging philosophical theory with empirical findings from the biological sciences.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with evidence of ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary research team and to meet project deadlines.

Responsabilités

• Developing an integrative framework for different measures of biological fitness.
• Developing a framework for understanding the role of the environment in explanations of adaptation.
• Exploring the implications of these frameworks for understanding health.
