Job summary

The GEO Group Australia’s GEO Healthcare team is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Team Leader for the Western Plains Correctional Centre, Lara, VIC. You will coordinate medication management, oversee inventory and ordering, and assist in rounds with medications prepared by a pharmacist in a dose administration aid (DAA).

The ideal candidate will have substantial pharmacy technician experience in hospital or community settings, with leadership and strong IT/comms skills.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician or Community Pharmacy) or equivalent.
• Completion of a dispensary assistant module is highly desirable.
• Previous extensive work experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or the community (Team Leader roles).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate medication management at the GEO Healthcare facility and oversee inventory and ordering.
• Assist in preparation for medication administration rounds and administer medications prepared by a pharmacist in a DAA.
• Lead and coordinate staff within the team across shifts and ensure regulatory compliance.

About the roles

GEO Healthcare provides primary healthcare to men in Public Prisons across Victoria. The role of Pharmacy Technician Team Leaders at GEO Healthcare is responsible for the overall coordination of medication management at the GEO Healthcare facility, including the management of medication inventory and ordering under supervision. The role includes assisting in the preparation for medication administration rounds, administering of prescribed medication which has been prepared by a pharmacist in a dose administration aid (DAA).

Qualifications and Experience:

Team Leaders:

• Certificate III in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician or Community Pharmacy), or equivalent, as approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia
• Completion of a dispensary assistant module is highly desirable.
• Previous extensive work experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or the community

The ideal candidate will have:

• Commitment to ongoing professional development and education

Other Requirements of the role:

• Completion of a dispensary assistant module will be highly regarded.
• Valid Australian driver’s licence.
• Ability to work within a prison setting, which will involve direct contact with people in prison associated with the delivery of healthcare.
• Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Working outside of ordinary business hours may be required.
