Job summary

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Assistant Technical Officer/Pharmacy support role to collect and deliver ward drug bags, manage stock, and assist with orders and storage across departments.

The role covers practical pharmacy duties, including handling controlled drugs, inventory checks, and participation in meetings and development of the pharmacy business plan. This position requires flexible working including weekends/bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Collect and deliver ward drug bags at designated times.
• Collect ward/departments drug boxes per topping up system and return full boxes, including bulky IV fluids and Sip Feeds.
• Book out stock items via the pharmacy computer system to wards/departments, including IVs and Sip Feeds.
• Receive all pharmacy orders into the department and return empty containers via delivery drivers.
• Match orders with the correct order sheet, recording batch numbers and expiry dates.
• Enter delivery records into the computer system and ensure correct storage and loading of the automated dispenser.
• Scan orders into the system to comply with the Falsified Medicines Directive regulations.
• Deliver Controlled Drugs to wards/departments and obtain a nursing signature on arrival.
• Top-up stock on wards, monitor, order, issue and distribute stock, including offsite locations.
• Print ward stock lists when required.
• Maintain the pharmacy electric truck and report defects to enable swift repairs.
• Maintain stock control in the Pharmacy stores area with daily stock and monthly expiry checks.
• File requisitions in the appropriate place.
• Handle return of items to the department per procedures.
• Track and log fridge temperatures to ensure correct storage of pharmaceuticals.
• Complete documentation and ensure sharp bins are labelled and collected per procedures.
• Ensure safety procedures under Health and Safety at Work Act and COSHH are followed.
• Participate in personal development and use computer technology as required by ATO duties.
• Take part in bank holiday and weekend work as required.
• Participate in pharmacy meetings and support the pharmacy business plan.
