Job description

I am a person with a disability, I have autism, ADHD and I am a powerchair and ventilator user. I am heavily involved in disability sport and currently working a full time job in the disability sector. I need assistance with my daily living tasks, community access, parenting responsibilities and someone who will help me culminate my career in sport and the work that I do.

I enjoy a variety of sports, playing and watching! I love video games, binge watching tv shows and heading to the cinemas for newly released movies. Sometimes I like doing all of those alone with a support worker, other times I may be with friends or family. There are mutiple family/friend dynamics that swap and change each day and week.

I need assistance with all aspects of my daily care, as well as support with anxiety and ADHD, especially around task management and decision making. I’m young & fun and like my care to feel carefree. This is an intimate job, as you’ll be assisting me with personal hygiene and other things, so I really look for someone who is fun, understanding, responsible, clean, can take direction but also take intiative.I am an introvert and have anxiety and so I am looking for someone who can understand when I am feeling anxious and need support even when I cannot communicate this.

Supporting me means:

I make my own decisions, I plan and organise my own life and I can make my own choices but sometimes I do need support with this, especially when I am overwhelmed and anxious. Your role is to provide the support I need and choose so I can live the life I want.

Working closely with me in my own home you'll assist with a wide range of personal daily activities such as:

Transferring in and out of bed, chairs and providing other mobility assistance

Showering, grooming, shaving

Toileting

Handling ventilator and mobility equipment

Assisting me in my role as an active father, including tasks involving young children

Community access

Housework, meal preparation and other light domestic assistance

Admin tasks, note taking etc

You'll be part of my ongoing support team, which means you'll get to build long-term professional relationships with me and my other support staff.

You’ll also need to:

Be available to workfrom 6am in the morning, evenings and some weekends.There may also be overnight shifts available.

Have a current driver licence and be able to drive my van.

Be capable of doing a physically demanding role - you'll be lifting, bending, carrying, crouching, driving and working in restricted spaces

Maintain a high level of reliability and punctuality within a busy family household.
