People & Culture Coordinator
State Schools Relief | Scoresby, VIC | Permanent part time, flexible
At State Schools Relief, we support over 70,000 students per year to attend school with what they need to feel included, to be able to participate fully in their education and achieve in their classroom. This is what State Schools Relief does, and we have been doing it since 1930. Each year, Victorian government school students from around 1,400 schools receive uniforms, shoes, glasses and school essentials from us. Teachers and principals refer the students who need help, and we provide it anonymously and with dignity, so that no child has to stand out because of what their family cannot afford.
Demand for our help is at record levels, and so is the support we are delivering. As we approach our centenary, we are growing our reach, our partnerships and our ambition.
Hours: part time, with 0.6 FTE as a guide. Hours and the number of days can be negotiated around other commitments.
Location: Scoresby, with a minimum of two days a week in the office.
Reports to: Director, Strategy & Corporate Services.
Salary: Competitive remuneration plus superannuation and not-for-profit salary packaging.
We are a team of 40 to 50 people, depending on the season, and we are carrying a high load of change. Our recent organisational review gave us a clear mandate to invest in our people, and this role is central to that commitment. You will be our first dedicated People & Culture appointment in a number of years. That means a real opportunity to shape practices that work, with strong support from the Director and from our CEO, who has a People & Culture background.
Run thorough probity and screening processes so that SSR fully meets the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
Coordinate work health and safety, learning and development, and our performance cycle.
Manage recruitment, onboarding and HR administration, including through our busy peak season.
Act as a trusted first point of contact for our leaders and staff on people matters.
Experience in a People & Culture coordinator or generalist role.
Practical experience with recruitment screening and pre-employment checks.
A working knowledge of Australian employment and WHS requirements, and good judgement about when to elevate.
Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with confidence keeping HR records, registers and systems accurate.
Highly regarded:
Tertiary qualifications in HR or a related field, and AHRI membership.
Experience with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
Experience in a not-for-profit, or in an organisation going through growth and change.
Our culture is positive, warm and proud of what we achieve. Every six months, the whole team comes together at an offsite to reconnect with our work plan and to make sure consultation is real, not a formality. We won’t pretend that rapid growth is always easy. We are committed, though, to making the next chapter as rewarding for our people as it is for the students and families who rely on us.
SSR is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people, and we have zero tolerance for child abuse. Our recruitment includes thorough screening, including a Working with Children Check, a National Police Check and referee checks.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities. If you need any adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.
Applications close on Sunday 22 November 2026.
We will interview shortlisted candidates as applications arrive.
