Job summary

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking an orthopedic support staff member to assist in inpatient and outpatient care. This role supports orthopedic surgeons in clinical and surgical tasks, ensuring safe patient care and a safe environment.

The position requires strong knowledge of casting, splinting, and instrumentation, with emphasis on pediatric care, aseptic technique, and teamwork; prior clinical exposure preferred but not required; BLS certification within 30 days.

Qualifications

• No minimum experience required.
• Six months of clinical experience.
• One year of orthopedic cast technical skills.
• Experience in pediatrics.
• Familiarity with orthopedic instrumentation and basic aseptic technique.
• Ability to cast, splint, and maintain hardware.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to all orthopedic service staff members.
• Applies and maintains traction and other patient hardware systems.
• Works with patients and families on all aspects of care.
• Provides excellent service routinely in interactions with all customers, e.g., coworkers, patients, visitors, physicians, and volunteers.
• Removes splints/casts at the end of treatment, as ordered.
• Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Reports mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, injuries, or safety issues to supervisor or compliance office immediately.
• Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines for Neonate to Adult.
• Participates in maintaining and monitoring work environment to ensure Joint Commission readiness.
• Performs patient intake process including height/weight, vital signs, and intake questionnaires.
