By investing in the best people and world-class equipment, we are setting the highest safety and production standards in the industry.

At Peabody, we take pride in producing the premium metallurgical coal essential for the world's steelmaking and infrastructure. We are committed to reviving this world-class operation, with longwall coal production commenced in 2026. With a 25+ year mine life, Centurion is positioned to lead the future of underground coal mining through safety, innovation and operational excellence.

The Opportunity

Peabody is seeking an experienced PCS Engineer to join our team at Centurion Mine, located approximately 160 kilometres west of Mackay.

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will provide technical leadership and engineering support for the plant control systems that underpin the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Centurion Mine.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing PCS standards, maintaining and improving plant control systems, troubleshooting complex system issues and identifying opportunities to improve reliability and performance.

Working closely with electrical, maintenance, operations and engineering teams, you will play a key role in ensuring our control systems support production today while building the capability and reliability required for Centurion's long-term future.

Your Impact
  • Develop, implement and maintain standards for plant control systems across Centurion Mine.
  • Install, program, maintain, fault find and continuously improve Citect SCADA systems.

  • Identify emerging system and maintenance risks, escalating issues that could impact production or plant availability.
  • Supervise contractors and Centurion personnel undertaking PCS-related activities.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance and site leadership to support production and operational objectives.
  • Ensure PCS activities comply with relevant legislation, statutory obligations, engineering standards and company requirements.
About You

You are a technically capable and solutions-focused PCS professional who enjoys solving complex control system problems while identifying opportunities to improve the way systems perform.

You are comfortable working autonomously in an operational environment and bring a combination of hands-on technical capability, structured problem solving and strong stakeholder engagement.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An electrical, controls, automation or related technical background with strong capability in PLC programming and SCADA development.

  • Strong experience working within structured change management and control frameworks.
  • Practical experience with industrial automation and control systems, ideally including Citect SCADA and Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation platforms.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex control system and industrial communication network issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities for reliability and system performance improvement.
  • The ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with operations, maintenance, engineering and other stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with computerised maintenance management systems, with SAP and Microsoft Office experience highly regarded.
  • Underground coal mining experience is advantageous; however, we will also consider candidates with significant PCS experience gained in heavy industrial, processing, manufacturing or automation environments.
  • A commitment to Safety, Integrity, Operational Excellence and Courageous Leadership.
