Job summary

Peabody Energy seeks an experienced Development Superintendent for Centurion Mine, located ~160 km west of Mackay. You will lead development crews, drive safe operations and coordinate with technical services to meet production milestones.

Successful candidate will bring extensive underground coal development leadership, strong planning and stakeholder management, and a proven track record of safety excellence in a high‑gas or complex strata environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years' experience in underground coal development with leadership in a Superintendent, Undermanager or senior Deputy role.
• QLD Statutory Supervisor qualifications (S1, S2, S3 and G2) are required or desirable.
• First/Second Class Mine Manager's Certificate is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily development operations to achieve advance rates and production targets safely.
• Drive a proactive safety culture and ensure legislative compliance.
• Collaborate with Technical Services and Ventilation to manage strata, gas drainage, and risks.
• Lead, mentor and develop development crews to build high-performance teams.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement to optimise cycle times and face efficiency.
• Work with Maintenance to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
• Drive operational excellence through planning, leadership and accountability.
• Ensure development activities align with short-term production and long-term mine planning.
• Promote safe work practices and discipline across all crews.
• Contribute to Centurion's ongoing success and growth.

The Opportunity

Peabody is seeking an experienced Development Superintendent to join our team at Centurion Mine, located approximately 160 kilometres west of Mackay.

Development is the heartbeat of Centurion. In this critical leadership role, you will lead the crews and strategy that prepare the mine for its long‑term future. Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of development operations, managing multiple continuous miner sections to achieve production targets and key operational milestones.

Your Impact

• Work closely with Maintenance teams to maximise equipment availability and minimise unplanned downtime.
• Drive operational excellence through strong planning, leadership and accountability.
• Ensure development activities support both short-term production objectives and long-term mine planning outcomes.
• Promote safe work practices and operational discipline across all crews.
• Contribute to the ongoing success and growth of Centurion's underground operation.

About You

You are an experienced underground coal mining leader with a strong development background and a proven ability to deliver results safely in challenging operating environments.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Minimum five years' experience in underground coal development, with leadership experience in a Superintendent, Undermanager or senior Deputy role.
• QLD Statutory Supervisor qualifications (S1, S2, S3 and G2).
• Second Class or First Class Mine Manager's Certificate highly regarded.
• Exceptional understanding of continuous miners, bolting systems and underground infrastructure.
• Experience operating in high gas or complex strata environments within underground coal mining.
• Strong leadership and people management capability.
• Demonstrated success in achieving operational targets while maintaining a strong safety focus.
• Excellent planning, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Commitment to Safety, Integrity, Operational Excellence and Courageous Leadership.
