Exciting opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Supervisor to join an organisation in the heart of Sydney CBD on a 12-month contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. What you'll do:

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for weekly pay runs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
  • Supervise and support two direct reports, fostering their professional development through guidance, training, and regular feedback.
  • Interpret complex awards and enterprise agreements to ensure correct application across all payroll activities.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders such as HR and finance teams to resolve queries and provide expert advice on payroll matters.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of employee data, leave entitlements, deductions, and other payroll-related information in accordance with privacy regulations.
  • Assist with audits by preparing documentation, responding to requests for information, and implementing any recommended improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance payroll processes for greater efficiency while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • Respond promptly to employee enquiries regarding payslips, tax matters, superannuation contributions, or other payroll issues with empathy and professionalism.
  • Contribute to the preparation of payroll reports for management review, highlighting trends or discrepancies as needed.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing end-to-end payroll processing within a medium or large organisation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Australian awards interpretation and enterprise agreement application within payroll functions.
  • Proven ability to supervise or mentor junior staff members in a collaborative manner that encourages growth and learning.
  • Excellent attention to detail when handling sensitive employee data or resolving complex pay queries.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable you to communicate clearly with colleagues at all levels while showing empathy for their concerns.
  • Adaptability when learning new systems; previous experience with Astute is not required but willingness to embrace new technology is essential.
  • Sound organisational abilities that allow you to manage multiple priorities effectively under tight deadlines.
