Hudson AU is seeking an experienced Contractor Payroll Officer for a 6-month fixed-term contract, based in Sydney on a hybrid arrangement. The role covers end-to-end payroll for casual staff and contractors across Australia, with strong emphasis on compliance and timely processing using Astute Payroll.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of Australian payroll experience, familiarity with contractor payrolls, and excellent stakeholder management.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, tax and superannuation.
• Experience with independent contractors/on-hire employees is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll for casual employees and independent contractors.

• Ensure accurate and timely processing of pay, tax and superannuation.
• Handle payroll reconciliations, adjustments and expense reimbursements.
• Respond to contractor payroll inquiries and resolve complex issues.

We are seeking an experienced Contractor Payroll Officer to join a fast-paced, national business on a 6-month fixed-term contract.

The Role

This is a hands‑on role supporting the end‑to‑end contractor payroll function across Australia, working closely with Finance, HR, recruitment teams and contractors to ensure payroll is processed accurately, efficiently and in line with legislative requirements.

With an immediate start available, we are looking for someone with strong contractor payroll experience and hands‑on experience using Astute Payroll who can quickly step in and hit the ground running.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing end‑to‑end payroll for casual employees and independent contractors
• Processing contractor payroll using Astute Payroll
• Ensuring accurate and timely processing of pay, tax and superannuation
• Managing payroll reconciliations, adjustments and expense reimbursements
• Responding to contractor payroll enquiries and resolving complex or escalated issues
• Managing superannuation calculations, reporting and payment requirements
• Supporting contractor engagement, on‑cost and gross margin calculations
• Preparing payroll reports, payment analysis and compliance reporting
• Maintaining accurate payroll records and supporting payroll audits
• Working closely with Finance, HR, recruitment consultants and other internal stakeholders
• Identifying opportunities to improve and streamline payroll processes

About You

• 5+ years' Australian payroll experience, ideally within contractor or casual payroll
• Previous experience using Astute Payroll
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation requirements
• Experience working with independent contractors and/or on‑hire employees
• Strong payroll reconciliation and reporting capability
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work to tight payroll deadlines
• Strong Excel and payroll systems capability
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience within recruitment, labour hire, staffing or contractor management will be highly regarded
