The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our Payroll team. You will be part of a supportive, experienced and well-respected team delivering timely and accurate payroll services to over 3,000 employees.

Reporting to our Payroll Team Leader you'll play a hands-on role across the payroll lifecycle, from processing new hires to checking payroll reports and supporting time administrators. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid payroll foundation and a desire to grow into more complex responsibilities as our organisation continues to grow.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Drummoyne, Sydney, with a salary range of $75,000–$80,000 plus superannuation. Part-time hours may be considered for the right candidate. Following the onboarding period, we are pleased to offer hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering the payment of wages, salaries, the payroll processing of new starts, transfers, salary reviews and progressions and the processing of cessations for employees.
  • Managing payroll queries and escalating to Team Leader where required
  • Ensuring compliance with Payroll quality procedures including the maintenance of accurate records and checking of pay, payroll anomaly reports and timesheet entry.
  • Provide informed advice to Managers, Supervisors and employees on employee entitlements in accordance with the relevant employment contracts, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and legislation.
  • Review & validate data to ensure accuracy on employment contract variations, then generate employment contract variations in a timely and compliant manner. Liaise with employees & managers to ensure contracts are signed and returned.
  • Processing contract variations within the payroll system to ensure compliant employee record updates.
  • Processing payment for terminations, long service leave, and back pay in accordance with legislative and award requirements.
  • Processing Statutory payments inclusive of Super, PAYG, Payroll Tax, Child Support and Garnishments
  • Completing Month End processes and assisting with Year End reconciliations when required
  • Maintaining a structured approach and methodology around data checks and audit to ensure accuracy of payroll

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A minimum 1 year (or equivalent) of payroll processing experience, preferably handling high-volume payrolls (1,000+ employees)
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply enterprise agreements, awards, and relevant payroll legislation accurately
  • High attention to detail, strong confidentiality, and a responsible approach to payroll data
  • Advanced Excel skills for data manipulation, reporting, and analysis
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex payroll issues and employee inquiries
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with HR, Finance, and other stakeholders
  • A collaborative mindset, working well within a team while managing responsibilities independently.
