Job description

The P&C Services function is located within People and Culture and provides several services to support La Trobe University in the management of employee related information, particularly the payroll processing, support of HR systems, payroll compliance and P&C helpdesk support.

We have become a function focused on innovation and automation to reduce the manual work within both our P&C Services areas and our university business functions.

Processing payroll for approx. 5000 paid employees and other payment categories, the Payroll Officer is responsible to ensure the successful delivery of the fortnightly payroll and all processes are completed within set deadlines. The Payroll Officer role undertakes a range of general payroll duties and employee data management activities but is also required to understand and execute the end- to-end payroll process/run on a fortnightly basis.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience using SAP HR/Payroll and timesheet systems
  • Demonstrated hands-on payroll knowledge and experience in all aspects of payroll processing working in a high-volume complex environment with speed and accuracy
  • Current termination and redundancy knowledge
  • Regular use and interpretation of EBAs and Awards in a previous role
  • Understanding of payroll legislation, Tax and super as the pertain to payroll under the Australian Taxation Office guidelines.
  • Experience maintaining superannuation, salary packaging and position management
  • Exceptional customer service, both written and verbal
  • Strong time management, attention to detail and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work autonomously or within a team environment
  • Strong MS Excel experience with ability to use VLOOKUP, Pivot tables and other equations in daily workload
