Job description

About 99 Bikes / Pedal Group
Launched in 2007 from a tiny Brisbane shop that could only fit 99 bikes, we've grown into Australia's largest bicycle retailer — now spanning Australia, New Zealand and the UK as part of the Pedal Group, with over 2 million Club 99 members. Our mission is simple: to be The World's Most Approachable Bike Shops. The Pedal Group also includes distributor Advance Traders (Merida, Cube, Pedal and more), and together we're driven by our purpose of enriching mind, body, earth or soul through the freedom of riding — balancing purpose with profit.

  • We Build Business Around People: We promote from within relentlessly. Whether it's moving a star performer to a new city or helping a bike builder rise to GM of our UK operations, your growth is our priority.
  • Profit Meets Purpose: As a proud Certified B Corp, we balance business with doing good. We've donated over $3.2M to employee-chosen charities, power 70% of our shops with solar, and even pay our team to ride to work.
Why Join Our Team
  • Generous salary package – Depending on experience and match to the selection criteria
  • Flexibility – We believe excellent outcomes and results are more important than set hours
  • Be recognised & rewarded for achievements - Top performing 10-20% fly to all-expenses-paid mega-conference “Global Gathering” in places like Japan, Canada, New Zealand or Bali!
  • Ultimate Perks - Get paid to ride to work + score cost-price prices!
  • Grow Your Wealth - Own a piece of the pie! Annual free gift shares + opportunity to buy into our booming Employee Share Scheme. Our Employee Share Scheme which started at 99c per share, now worth $7per share. Current and ex-employees own over 24% of our company, with this number growing every year.
  • Unmatched career growth opportunities - We promote from within and our teams have progressed to Team Leaders, State Leaders, Product/Online/Marketing Specialists and General Managers!
  • $1,000 Personal Development Fund - Cash for your personal growth, plus our access to our internal 7-step Leadership Academy.
  • Earning to Give Program - We donate 1% of our wage bill to team-selected charities —over $3.2M gifted so far!
  • Certified B Corp - We balance profit with purpose, doing good for people and the planet.
About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic collaborator to join our supportive, close-knit team. Someone who is passionate about making payday happen. This is a hands-on, full-time role based in our Brisbane office, ideal for someone keen to further develop their career in Payroll. You’ll deliver payroll services to our ANZ team of over 800 employees, working closely with our Stores, Finance, and HR teams to ensure accurate and timely outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end fortnightly payroll for Pedal Group and subsidiaries — delivering timely, accurate pays that our frontline teams can count on, every single time.
  • Be the engine behind every pay event — new hires, terminations, salary changes, leave, redundancies, back pays, plus monthly bonus/commission runs and ad hoc weekly payments.
  • Keep our payroll system and employee portal humming, managing access and ensuring the tools our people rely on stay accurate and reliable.
  • Champion our frontline crew by running a responsive payroll inbox — delivering prompt, clear and friendly support that makes every team member feel looked after.
  • Safeguard compliance with confidence, staying across superannuation, PAYG, child support and all statutory obligations so the business and our people are always protected.
  • Partner across Operations, HR and Finance and drive continuous improvement — juggling priorities and bringing energy to payroll projects that make life better for the whole team.
Key Criteria & Qualifications
  • You get that payroll is people, not numbers — behind every pay run is someone's trust, wellbeing and ability to look after their family. You treat that responsibility with the care it deserves.
  • You take genuine ownership — you show up, own your work, follow through, and act with honesty and integrity even when no one's watching. Dependable is just who you are.
  • You're a problem-solver, not a finger-pointer — when things get messy you stay calm, roll up your sleeves and work with people rather than defensively. Competing priorities don't rattle you.
  • You're a real team player who loves the human side — clear, patient and respectful communication is your default, and you'd rather have a conversation than hide behind email. You understand how payroll fits the bigger picture.
  • You're wired for continuous improvement — pride in accuracy and detail is a given, but you're always learning, questioning, and finding better ways to do things.
  • You bring the skills to back it up — ideally 2+ years in a similar role (or strong transferable skills), with advanced Excel and Google Sheets a real bonus.
