The Opportunity

As the Payroll Manager, you will take ownership of the organisation’s payroll operations, overseeing payroll across multiple countries and jurisdictions.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail while also having the opportunity to build something. You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of accurate and compliant payroll, while establishing processes, controls and standards for a centralised global payroll function.

You’ll work closely with Finance, HR, business leaders, employees and external payroll partners across the globe, solving complex payroll issues and identifying practical ways to improve the employee experience. With continued international growth, this role will also have exposure to payroll transformation, automation, new country implementations and potentially acquisitions.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role that balances day-to-day payroll delivery with building for the future.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing end-to-end payroll across multiple countries and jurisdictions, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time
• Owning the payroll platform, including employee set-up, workflows, approvals, reporting and provider relationships
• Ensuring payroll remains compliant with local tax, employment, superannuation and social security requirements
• Managing payroll reconciliations and work closely with Finance on journals, reporting, budgeting and month-end activities
• Leading the development of a centralised global payroll function, including policies, processes, controls and service standards
• Identifying opportunities to improve, simplify and automate payroll, supporting new country launches, entity integrations and future growth
• Acting as the key payroll contact across the organisation, providing practical advice and resolving payroll matters with employees, managers and senior stakeholders

The Ideal Person

You’ll be an experienced payroll professional with 7+ years' experience who genuinely enjoys payroll and isn't afraid to roll up your sleeves. You'll have significant hands-on processing experience and a strong understanding of international payroll, taxation and statutory requirements.

You’ll ideally have experience with global payroll platforms, strong Excel skills and the ability to work comfortably across payroll and Finance. Just as importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys improving things rather than accepting that "that's how we've always done it".

You’ll suit this role if you like having ownership, autonomy and variety in your work. You'll be comfortable working in a growing environment where you may need to solve a problem yourself, build a process from scratch or have a conversation with a senior stakeholder to get something moving.

Experience in a multinational or ASX-listed organisation, payroll transformation or centralisation, acquisitions or rapid international growth will be highly regarded.

A CA/CPA or payroll qualification would also be advantageous.
