Job summary

NSW Health Pathology is seeking a Permanent Full Time Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team. You will support specimen reception and data entry, contributing to timely diagnostic testing across Blacktown, Auburn, and Mount Druitt Hospitals.

This role offers an entry point into pathology with opportunities for professional growth. You will work in a collaborative environment, learning from experienced professionals while developing essential skills in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance and/or previous experience in a pathology setting or demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre-analytical environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment with competing priorities and time constraints.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
• Willingness to operate and maintain pre-analytical equipment as required.
• Proficient computer skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Understanding of confidentiality and handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation and policies.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts, and capacity to travel within the operational area.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a high-quality pathology service by performing specimen reception duties, including receiving and triaging specimens, patient registration and request entry.
• Process specimens and prepare for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely diagnostic testing.
• Participate in efficient operations and support colleagues across hospital sites as required.
