Job summary

Austin Health is seeking a Pathology Collector to ensure high-quality patient care in hospital and outpatient settings. You will collect samples with precision, maintain accurate records, and prepare specimens for transport and testing.

Excellent communication and empathy with patients are essential. Applicants should have Phlebotomy experience or a Certificate III in Pathology Collection, along with flexible weekend availability and strong time management and organisational skills.

About the Pathology Collection department

Austin Health Pathology provides services to not only Austin Health and the co-located Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg, but also to numerous GPs and specialists in the metropolitan and regional community. We are committed to providing high-quality patient care through routine and complex diagnostic services, expert advice and support for teaching and research.

About the role

As a Pathology Collector, you will always ensure the highest level of service to our patients and clients, in both the hospital and outpatient settings. You will ensure specimen integrity is maintained and patient care is at the centre of everything you do.

A regular day will see you:

• Collect samples (blood and non-blood) with care and attention
• Maintain meticulous records for every patient and sample
• Prepare and package specimens for transport and testing

About you

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You'll bring energy and drive to your work, and pride yourself on your exceptional customer service skills.

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:

• Experience and knowledge in Phlebotomy or a Certificate III in Pathology Collection, Diploma of Nursing or relevant experience
• Flexible availability, with the ability to work weekends
• High level of customer service, communication and empathy towards patients and clients
• Strong time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
• Experience working in hospitals settings is desirable
