Job summary

Burgess Paluch Legal Recruitment is exclusively representing a leading corporate/commercial practice in Melbourne. This is a partner-level (or Special Counsel) opportunity to join a thriving firm with a merit-based progression track.

You will work on high-end commercial matters, potentially handling sales and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructures, projects and governance work for top-tier clients, with the option to bring in or grow a client base.

Qualifications

• Partner-level or Special Counsel role in corporate/commercial law.
• No client base required; may inherit a base or build one.
• Involves commercial and transactional work including M&A, JVs, restructures, projects, and governance.

Responsibilities

• Handle high-end corporate/commercial matters for a growing client base.
• Contribute to business development and marketing initiatives within the firm.
• Mentor and assist junior lawyers within the team.

Play a key role in the future growth of the successful corporate/commercial group of this leading dynamic, growing firm. Working within a successful corporate and commercial team you will add value at the top end by dealing successfully with clients, using your honed legal skills and assisting junior lawyer within the group.

Acting for a mix of clients, including a large and growing stable of clients poached from top and mid-tier firms, you will enjoy a mix of commercial and transactional work. Depending on your experience you can enjoy sales and acquisitions, joint ventures, restructures, projects, and other broad commercial contracts and governance work for high-end clients.

This is a unique partner-level (or Special Counsel level) role for a lawyer who may not have a client-base of his or her own. The firm is thriving and you will inherit a full client base, although the firm will make room if you bring wokr of your own as well. The firm promotes on merit and has become a happy home for lawyers from top-tier and 2nd tier practices looking for an easier and more realistic path to partnership.
