Job summary

St Anthony’s Catholic School in Riverside, Tasmania, is seeking a dedicated Utility Officer to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment that supports high-quality learning for students. This ongoing part-time role (0.44 FTE) covers grounds, maintenance and cleaning tasks, with hours 8:00am–3:30pm Wed and Thu, plus another day to be negotiated.

The successful candidate will bring practical maintenance experience and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Practical maintenance or trade experience.
• Strong problem-solving and initiative.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe school environment.
• Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
• National Police Criminal History Check – current less than 6 months old, or willing to obtain
• Basic first aid (or willingness to obtain).
• Experience in school or facility maintenance environments.
• Experience with groundskeeping equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, repairs and upkeep of buildings and equipment.
• Conduct regular safety checks and report hazards promptly.
• Assist with minor carpentry, painting, plumbing and general repairs.
• Support contractors on site and coordinate access as required.
• Maintain gardens, lawns, outdoor play areas and pathways.
• Operate mowers, blowers and other grounds equipment safely.
• Ensure the school grounds remain tidy, safe and welcoming.
• Assist with waste management and recycling processes.
• Provide cleaning support during busy periods or special events.
• Set up and pack down furniture for assemblies, meetings and activities.
• Assist with deliveries, storage, movement of equipment and supplies.
• Respond to urgent maintenance or safety issues promptly.
