Job summary

Queensland Parliament Service in Brisbane is seeking an experienced Inquiry Secretary to lead parliamentary inquiries, provide high-quality procedural guidance, and produce clear, evidence-based reports and briefing materials. You will work flexibly across committees, stepping into leadership roles as needed and supporting projects within the Committee Office.

The role emphasizes independent work, strong research and advisory capabilities, and mentoring across the secretariat to uphold integrity

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and communicate complex information clearly.
• Strong advisory skills and ability to provide sound recommendations.
• Excellent written communication with experience in reports or policy documents.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities under tight timeframes.
• Leadership capability and mentoring within a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead parliamentary inquiries including planning, engagement, evidence gathering and report prep.
• Provide authoritative procedural advice to committee chairs and members.
• Analyse legislation, policy matters and inquiry evidence to develop balanced recommendations.
• Prepare committee reports, briefing papers, correspondence and parliamentary docs.
• Build relationships with committee members, government agencies, community organisations, industry reps and the public.
• Support projects and business improvement initiatives across the Committee Office.
• Contribute informal leadership, mentoring and support to colleagues.
• Maintain high standards of integrity, confidentiality, professionalism and impartiality.
