Job summary

Tenterfield Shire Council in NSW is hiring for a full-time Parks & Gardens Operative (Maintenance). You will help maintain parks, gardens, sports grounds, open spaces and streetscapes, reporting to the Parks & Gardens Coordinator.

The role involves operating plant and tools, pruning, cemetery maintenance, and supporting waste management and weed control. Enjoy a 9-day fortnight, generous leave, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Certificate II in Horticulture or equivalent experience.
• Current Class C driver's licence and Construction Induction (White) Card.
• Ability to operate and carry out maintenance on plant, equipment and hand tools.
• Physical capability to perform labouring and manual handling tasks safely.
• Traffic Control Card, or the ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Operate small plant, hand tools and attachments safely, including ride-on mowers, chainsaws and brush cutters.
• Prune trees, remove green waste and complete plantings and streetscape maintenance.
• Maintain Council amenities, facilities and the Tenterfield Cemetery to a high standard.
• Conduct pre-start checks on plant and equipment and report faults promptly.
• Support additional operational activities including animal impounding, waste management, noxious weeds and saleyards.

About the Role

Tenterfield Shire Council is seeking a full-time Parks & Gardens Operative (Maintenance). Reporting to the Parks & Gardens Coordinator, you will help ensure Council's parks, gardens, sports grounds, open spaces, and street landscapes are maintained to a high standard in this varied, outdoor role.

Duties

• Operate small plant, hand tools and attachments safely, including ride‑on mowers, chainsaws and brush cutters
• Prune trees, remove green waste and complete plantings and streetscape maintenance
• Maintain Council amenities, facilities and the Tenterfield Cemetery to a high standard
• Conduct pre-start checks on plant and equipment and report faults promptly
• Support additional operational activities including animal impounding, waste management, noxious weeds and saleyards

Skills & Experience

• Certificate II in Horticulture, or equivalent experience and knowledge
• Current Class C Driver's Licence and Construction Induction (White) Card
• Ability to operate and carry out user maintenance on plant, equipment and hand tools
• Physical capability to carry out general labouring and manual handling tasks safely
• Traffic Control Card, or the ability to obtain one
