Job summary

Southern Shorthaul Railroad seeks a Permanent Fully Qualified Freight Train Driver based in Parkes. You will operate freight trains safely, efficiently and in compliance with SSR procedures and rail network rules, while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

You will be required to work a roster that may include weekends and remote locations, be prepared for shift work, and demonstrate a strong customer focus with a commitment to zero injuries.

Qualifications

• Evidence of units of competence from Certificate IV Rail Operations.
• Current NSW Safeworking Qualifications or willing to obtain.
• Evidence of route qualifications/experience.
• Certificate/Medical for Category 1 Rail Safety Worker or willingness to obtain.
• Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain.
• High literacy and numeracy skills; ability to understand SSR procedures.
• Commitment to safety culture and customer focus; professional attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist with freight haulage tasks following SSR policies.
• Prepare and provision locomotives and wagons for operations.
• Perform minor fault repairs and rectifications in-field.
• Undertake maintenance tasks and validate rolling stock integrity.
• Conduct yourself with professionalism, safety and customer focus.
• Support risk management to uphold zero injuries objective.

SSR is currently looking to recruit a Permanent Fully Qualified Freight Train Driver for work out of Parkes.

Our Freight Train Drivers provide train operations in a safe, effective and efficient mannerand work collaborativelyby:

• Assisting with freight haulage tasks in accordance with SSR policies and procedures
• Preparing and provisioning locomotives and wagons for train operations by following SSR procedures
• Performing minor fault repairs and failure rectifications in-field
• Undertaking maintenance tasks and assisting rolling-stock maintainers to validate the integrity of rolling stock (including brakes), and ensuring all operational systems are safe and effective
• Conducting themselves in a professional manner with a strong customer and safety focus
• Ensuring a commitment to established processes and management of risks with the objective of zero injuries

Southern Shorthaul Railroad maintains a drug and alcohol-free work environment, with regular testing of employees and a zero tolerance for positive test results.

In pursuit of customer focused service delivery outcomes, these positions may:

• Require frequent remote working away from a home depot (booking off).
• Require rostering that will vary upon customer requirements, including weekends and shift work.

The successful applicant must demonstrate the following:

• Certificate IV Rail Operations - provide evidence of the units of competence successfully attained
• Current or previous NSW Safeworking Qualifications
• Evidence of your route qualifications/experience
• Category 1 Rail Safety Workers Medical or willingness to obtain one
• Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one
• A high level of literacy, numeracy and comprehension skills
• A commitment to a safety culture, and a can-do customer focus
• Professionalism, integrity, reliability and a positive attitude
