Overview

Parent Pathways is a voluntary government program to support parents/carers with children under six to take part in a pre-employment service. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Parent Mentor to join our Preston and Heidelberg locations on a part-time basis 9.30am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individualised mentorship to parents, offering support and guidance on various parenting challenges.
  • Assist parents/carers to overcome barriers and empower them with the skills to achieve their individual employment and/or educational goals.
  • Facilitate workshops and group sessions on topics relevant to parent challenges.
  • Develop and implement engaging educational materials and resources.
  • Foster a safe and supportive environment for parents to share experiences and learn from one another.
  • Collaborate with community organisations and resources to enhance program offerings.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, providing feedback for continuous improvement.
The Person
  • Personal lived experience in parenting or family support, along with relevant professional experience (Employment service experience highly regarded).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse families.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others, particularly parents.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support systems is a plus.
  • Able to meet targets while maintaining high standards of customer service.
  • Understanding and respect for diverse backgrounds and perspectives, promoting inclusivity.
  • Precision in documentation and case management to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficient in Technology.
  • Completed or working towards a Certificate III or above in a related course in Society and Culture, Health or Education; or tertiary level qualifications related to education, training, social services, counselling, case management, psychology, community services, careers guidance
  • Current Working with Children Check or willing to obtain one
