Job summary

Far West NSW Local Health District in Broken Hill NSW invites applications for a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner. This permanent full-time role delivers advanced nursing care within the Specialist Palliative Care setting, including comprehensive assessments, diagnostics interpretation and treatment decisions.

You will provide independent and collaborative care for patients with life-limiting illness, require Nurse Practitioner endorsement, and have at least 5 years post-registration

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner
• Minimum 5 years full-time post-registration experience, with at least 3 years in Palliative Care
• Postgraduate qualifications relevant to Palliative Care
• Ability to provide independent and collaborative palliative care within a multidisciplinary team
• Strong leadership, negotiation and change management skills

This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro‑rated to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

What you'll be doing

The Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice role comprising comprehensive assessment, interpretation of diagnostics, and implementation of treatment modalities within the Specialist Palliative Care setting. Palliative Care NP provides independent and collaborative expert palliative care nursing for patients with life limiting illness, particularly in complex cases and across care settings.

Selection Criteria

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery board of Australia and endorsement by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience and at least 3 years full time experience in Palliative Care with post graduate qualifications relevant to Palliative Care.


• Demonstrated high level knowledge and advanced clinical nursing skills including comprehensive assessment, interpretation of diagnostics, implementation of treatment modalities including pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures, and relevant referral skills applied to a broad range of challenging, complex and changing palliative care situations.


• Demonstrated advanced clinical leadership role, negotiation, liaison, interpersonal and problem solving skills within the Palliative Care setting.


• Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability while also working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and multi service environment.


• Demonstrated ability to lead and implement change and improvements in clinical practice through initiation, utilisation and review of evidence based research and participation in peer review, quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management activities relevant to Palliative Care.


• Demonstrated ability to actively contribute to own continuing professional development and demonstrated experience in providing education and training to other health professionals.


• Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel with the Far West LHD, which may involve overnight stays.


• Current Drivers Licence and willingness to travel within the Far West LHD.
