Job summary

Strathfield Council is seeking a Building Maintenance Officer - Painter to join our Building Facilities team in Sydney. You will maintain, repair and improve council-owned buildings with professional painting, decorating and surface maintenance services.

The role requires a trade licence, relevant qualifications, and proven painting experience, with safety compliance and collaboration with internal teams to minimise disruption to council operations.

Qualifications

• Hold a trade licence qualification related to the work performed.
• TAFE or other industry qualifications relative to the trade position.
• Demonstrated experience in painting, varnishing and applying coating to buildings.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing estimates and quotations.
• General Safety (White Card) Induction Certificate.
• NSW Class ‘C’ Drivers Licence.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Undertake painting, decorating, varnishing and surface preparation works across Council-owned buildings and facilities.
• Inspect surfaces, interpret drawings and specifications, and determine materials/procedures.
• Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, including sourcing materials, tools and equipment.
• Investigate faults and building maintenance issues, recommend repairs and prepare reports.
• Obtain quotations, raise purchase orders and maintain records of materials, labour, costs.
