Job summary

Griffin Marine Services is seeking a Painter/Blaster for part-time, temporary roles across Hope Valley (WA) and other Australian locations. You will prepare surfaces, blast coatings and apply protective layers to marine vessels and Defence assets, while upholding safety, quality and project standards.

The role requires at least 2 years in industrial painting and blasting, with a strong safety mindset, a White Card, and a valid Australian driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ industrial painting and abrasive blasting experience.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices and PPE requirements.
  • Physically fit for manual, labour-intensive work in industrial environments.
  • Current White Card and Australian Driver’s Licence.
  • Defence Common Access Card (DCAC) eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces by abrasive blasting and mechanical preparation.
  • Apply protective coatings using spray, brush and roller.
  • Paint and blast marine vessels, Defence assets and industrial infrastructure.
  • Read and interpret work instructions, drawings and coating specifications.
  • Follow health, safety, environmental and quality procedures, including PPE usage.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment.

Position Overview:

As a Painter / Blaster, you will be responsible for surface preparation, abrasive blasting and the application of protective coatings to marine vessels and infrastructure. You will ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. Opportunities are available across Hope Valley (WA), Darwin (NT), NSW (Sydney) and Cairns (QLD), supporting a variety of Defence and commercial marine projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare steel and other surfaces using abrasive blasting, mechanical preparation and other surface treatment methods
  • Apply protective coatings using spray, brush and roller techniques
  • Perform painting and blasting on marine vessels, Defence assets and industrial infrastructure
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with quality and project specifications
  • Safely operate and maintain painting and blasting equipment
  • Read and interpret work instructions, drawings and coating specifications
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures, including correct PPE usage
  • Work collaboratively to deliver projects safely, efficiently and on schedule
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment

About You

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in industrial painting, abrasive blasting and protective coating applications
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices, including PPE requirements
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual, labour-intensive work in industrial environments
  • Reliable team player with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Current White Card and valid Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Common Access Card (DCAC)
  • Confined Space, Working at Heights, EWP, Forklift and Fire Sentry tickets (desirable)
