About the role

Paediatric Anaesthesia Consultants provide safe, effective andefficient anaesthesia and acute pain management for childrenundergoing elective and emergency procedures, both in-hours andout-of-hours through an on-call roster. The service is deliveredwith a patient-focused approach to both public and privatepatients, in alignment with the objectives and philosophies of theChildren's Anaesthesia Department, Division of Surgical Servicesand Women's and Children's Health Network.

Key duties of the role

• Provide a first-class clinical service to the inpatientsand outpatients of the Women's and Children's Hospital andaffiliated agencies.
• Provide appropriate pre-operative and post-operativeassessment of patients including pre-anaesthetic clinics.
• Participate in the after-hours emergency on-call roster andensure accurate and complete maintenance of clinicalrecords.
• Actively support the Acute Pain Management Service, promotetraining and teaching for staff within and outside WCHN, andsupport research in paediatric anaesthesia.
• Maintain a commitment to continuing medical education andprovide support for management portfolios, the anaesthesia teamand the broader clinical team.

Skills and Experience

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree, with appropriatespecialist qualifications and eligibility for SpecialistRegistration with the Medical Board of Australia, orqualifications recognised under the SA Health Visiting MedicalSpecialists Enterprise Agreement.
• Extensive clinical experience and knowledge in paediatricanaesthesia.
• Significant experience in undergraduate and postgraduateteaching, and research programs.
• Demonstrated clinical excellence, strong communication,problem-solving and decision-making skills, and the ability towork effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of work health and safety, equal opportunity,public sector ethics and diversity principles.
