Job summary

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) seeks a P-8A Avionics Engineer to join the Poseidon team. You’ll apply engineering judgement and collaborate to support design, maintenance and repair of critical systems for the Australian Defence Force. The role is a 12‑month temporary position based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, Adelaide.

Bring a Bachelor of Engineering in a related field, 2+ years of avionics experience, and a proactive, data‑driven approach. Australian citizenship is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical, Electronics or Aerospace; RPEQ/CPEng desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years' avionics systems experience in in‑service aircraft operations.
  • Experience with regulated aviation environments (DASR, CASA, FAA, EASA).
  • Strong data analysis and clear documentation of results.
  • Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder engagement in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide avionics system engineering support for the P-8A weapon system.
  • Input into avionics findings and support sound engineering decisions.
  • Ensure work complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare engineering reports and translate analysis into recommendations.
  • Contribute to design projects from concept to delivery.
  • Develop procedures for data collection, assessment and reporting.
  • Engage with stakeholders via updates, briefings and presentations.

The Opportunity

Join Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) and help shape the future of one of the world's most advanced maritime patrol capabilities.

In partnership with the ADF and the Commonwealth, BDA delivers aircraft maintenance and upgrades, component maintenance solutions, technical support, mission‑critical infrastructure support, and training across some of the most capable surveillance, command, control, and combat platforms in the world.

We are seeking a P-8A Avionics Engineer to join our high‑performing P‑8A Poseidon team. In this role, you will bring engineering judgement, technical expertise, and a collaborative mindset to support teams responsible for the design, maintenance, and repair of critical weapon systems for the Australian Defence Force. This role is a 12 month temporary position.

This exciting opportunity is based at RAAF Base Edinburgh, Adelaide.

What You'll Do
  • Contribute to engineering support across the full P-8A weapon system, including aircraft, mission support systems, and training systems.
  • Provide specialist input into avionics system findings and support sound engineering decisions.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to engineering reports and documentation, translating analysis into clear technical recommendations.
  • Participate in design projects from concept through delivery, ensuring outcomes meet customer, stakeholder, regulatory, and schedule expectations.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of procedures for data collection, assessment, and reporting.
  • Engage confidently with stakeholders, providing updates, briefings, and presentations.
  • Help foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
About You
  • A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace or a related discipline) from a nationally accredited program, or equivalent experience. RPEQ and/or CPEng is desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in avionics systems, aircraft repairs, analysis, or engineering support within in‑service aircraft operations.
  • Experience developing engineering artefacts in a regulated aviation environment, such as DASR, CASA, FAA, EASA, or similar.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to collect, organise and interpret data to form sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive approach, strong initiative, and a drive to deliver results.
