Job summary

The U.S. Pacific Fleet in Australia seeks skilled trades personnel to support the overhaul and repair of naval vessels at Garden Island, applying high-performance coatings and performing surface preparation to maintain ship integrity.

You will follow drawings, specifications and manufacturers’ instructions to select methods and equipment, operate blast and surface-prep gear, wear PPE, and adhere to overseas living conditions and security requirements that accompany this foreign assignment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to follow drawings, specs and manuals.
• Experience with blast equipment and surface prep methods.

Responsibilities

• Support overhaul and repair of naval vessels through surface preparation and coating application.
• Enhance structural integrity and reduce ship maintenance needs.
• Use drawings, specifications, manuals, standards and instructions to identify locations and assemble blast equipment.
• Determine surface preparation type and method considering surface profile, cleanliness and tolerances.
• Use hand or mechanical methods (scaling, sanding, scraping, chemical removal) for preparation.
• Use deck blast machines to remove coatings and oxide from decks of ships.
• Apply materials knowledge for coatings on various surfaces including critical areas.
