Job summary

Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS) is seeking an energetic Outdoor Education Teacher for its Eildon Camp, starting 25 January 2027. This full-time residential role includes staff accommodation, with the option to live at the camp year-round.

The program supports Years 3–10 with activities like canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing and more. Applicants should hold teaching qualifications with VIT registration and have or be willing to obtain outdoor education credentials and wilderness

Responsibilities

• Deliver Outdoor Education programs at Eildon Camp and support student development.
• Lead activities in orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, climbing, canoeing and rafting.
• Collaborate with school staff to integrate camp experiences into learning.
• Ensure safety and well-being of students during residential camps.
• Plan, organise and coordinate activities and schedules.

The Role

We seek an energetic, skilled and qualified Outdoor Education Teacher to join a team of committed educators at the school's Eildon Camp.

This is a full time ongoing position, commencing from 25 January 2027.

This opportunity is offered as a weekday residential role with staff accommodation provided, but staff can live at camp throughout the year if preferred.

The Outdoor Education program runs camps at Eildon to support the educational and personal development of students, typically from Years 3 to 10. Students enjoy a wide range of activities which include orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, initiative games and high and low rope courses. The program develops teamwork amongst students and an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.

Applicants Will Have The Following

• Teaching qualifications and VIT registration
• Appropriate Outdoor Education related qualifications and experience in the activities offered would be of benefit, with accreditation in ropes and Wilderness First Aid an advantage
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build effective relationships with students and staff
• A commitment to child safety and student welfare, including demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgrounds
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Effective organisational and planning skills
• Boat licence is preferred but not essential
• A current driver's licence
