Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School (PEGS) invites applications for an energetic Outdoor Education Teacher to join the Eildon Camp team. This full-time ongoing role starts 25 January 2027, with staff accommodation provided and optional year-round residency at the camp.

The Outdoor Education program runs camps at Eildon to support student development from Years 3 to 10, offering activities such as orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing and rafting, promoting teamwork

Qualifications

• Teaching qualifications and VIT registration required.
• Outdoor Education qualifications and experience beneficial; ropes accreditation and Wilderness First Aid advantage.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with students and staff.
• Commitment to child safety and student welfare, with inclusive practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong organisational and planning skills.
• Boat licence preferred but not essential.
• Current driver’s licence required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and oversee the Outdoor Education program at Eildon Camp.
• Engage students in activities such as orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing and rafting.
• Support student development for Years 3–10 and foster teamwork and environmental understanding.
• Ensure safety and welfare during activities and maintain camp operations.

The Role

We seek an energetic, skilled and qualified Outdoor Education Teacher to join a team of committed educators at the school's Eildon Camp.

This is a full time ongoing position, commencing from 25 January 2027. This opportunity is offered as a weekday residential role with staff accommodation provided, but staff can live at camp throughout the year if preferred.

The Outdoor Education program runs camps at Eildon to support the educational and personal development of students, typically from Years 3 to 10. Students enjoy a wide range of activities which include orienteering, abseiling, hiking, archery, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, initiative games and high and low rope courses. The program develops teamwork amongst students and an appreciation and understanding of the natural environment.

Applicants will have the following:

• Teaching qualifications and VIT registration
• Appropriate Outdoor Education related qualifications and experience in the activities offered would be of benefit, with accreditation in ropes and Wilderness First Aid an advantage
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build effective relationships with students and staff
• A commitment to child safety and student welfare, including demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgrounds
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Effective organisational and planning skills
• Boat licence is preferred but not essential
• A current driver's licence
