Job summary

Canberra Grammar School is seeking an Outdoor Education Leader to instruct and lead students in a comprehensive outdoor programme across Year 1–11. You will run sessions in bushwalking, navigation, mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, paddling and caving, and guide camps and expeditions with a strong emphasis on safety and inclusivity.

The role requires a Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership (or equivalent), current first aid/CPR, a valid Light Rigid licence, and at least three years’

Qualifications

• Hold current remote or wilderness first aid certification and CPR, renewed within each certificate's term.
• Hold the activity qualifications the School requires for each activity the leader instructs.
• Obtain a Light Rigid driver licence, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle and hold it while in the role.
• A Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership, with specialisation in at least three of bushwalking, navigation, mountain biking, paddling, abseiling, climbing and caving.
• At least three years' experience leading groups in the outdoor education sector.
• Demonstrated competence instructing technical activities and leading groups on multi-day expeditions in remote settings.
• Clear written and spoken English, and sound technological literacy for planning, records and communication.
• A commitment to child-safe practice and to working as a team.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and leads students outdoors across CGS Outdoor Education with sessions in bushwalking, navigation, mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, paddling and caving.
• Leads student groups on camps, journey-based programmes and expeditions.
• Ensures participation rates remain high and inclusive participation for all students.
• Work with the programme leader's direction in the field and raise safety concerns immediately.
