Job summary

The Shire of Baw Baw is seeking a motivated Natural Environment Maintenance Officer to join the Open Space Maintenance team. In this role you will undertake maintenance and improvement of wetlands, waterways, bushland reserves and native vegetation sites, working as part of a supportive team outdoors.

You will perform environmental and horticultural maintenance activities including weed management, revegetation support, operation of plant and equipment, and environmental improvement works.

Qualifications

• Relevant horticultural, conservation, environmental management or land management qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in natural environment maintenance.
• Experience working in native vegetation, wetlands, waterways or open space maintenance environments.
• Knowledge of weed identification and safe herbicide application practices.
• Experience operating plant, machinery and equipment used in environmental or horticultural maintenance.
• A strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
• Well-developed communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with colleagues, contractors and members of the community.
• The ability to work effectively within a team while also demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
• A current Victorian Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve Council's natural environment areas including wetlands, waterways, bushland reserves and native vegetation sites.
• Perform weed management and revegetation support as part of environmental maintenance.
• Operate plant, machinery and equipment safely and in accordance with environmental improvement works.
• Contribute to biodiversity protection and amenity of public land across the municipality.
• Work outdoors and collaborate within a supportive team.
