Job summary

Oral Health Victoria is seeking an experienced Oral Health Advisor to join the Smile Squad and provide clinical leadership for the school dental program. This role aims to improve oral health outcomes and consumer experiences through value-based care.

Working within the Chief Oral Health Advisor’s leadership team, you will contribute to governance, training, and cross‑team collaboration to implement population health strategies and improve service delivery.

Qualifications

  • The candidate holds a tertiary qualification in Dental or Oral Health Therapy and is registered with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership experience within a public health setting.
  • Understanding of value-based healthcare, population health, and their application to oral health services.
  • Experience analysing clinical data to evaluate services and implement improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and advice for the Smile Squad school dental program, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Support clinical governance, including peer review, quality improvement and professional development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate population health strategies, workforce planning, and training programs.
  • Contribute advice on infrastructure, equipment and technology requirements to support program delivery.

  • Grade 4 Salary + 12 % Super

Position Purpose

As part of the Chief Oral Health Advisor’s clinical leadership team, the Oral Health Advisor, Smile Squad provides clinical leadership and expert advice to support the delivery of the Smile Squad school dental program. The role contributes to improved oral health outcomes and consumer experiences through value-based healthcare principles while maintaining clinical practice through service delivery within Smile Squad.


Role Accountabilities


  • Provide clinical leadership and advice for the delivery, continuous improvement and evaluation of the Smile Squad school dental program, ensuring high-quality, safe and person-centred care aligned with value-based healthcare principles.

  • Support clinical governance, including peer review, quality improvement and professional development initiatives.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to integrate population health strategies, workforce planning, talent acquisition, staff development, and training programs.

  • Contribute advice on infrastructure, equipment and technology requirements that support program delivery.


Role Requirements - Knowledge


  • Tertiary qualification in Dental or Oral Health Therapy with current AHPRA registration.

  • Understanding of value-based healthcare, public and population health principles, and their application to oral health services.

  • Knowledge of the health sector, relevant legislation, policies, regulations, and clinical governance frameworks.

  • Understanding of oral health record management systems (e.g. Titanium) and user requirements.


Experience


  • Current practicing dental practitioner with strong clinical expertise and a commitment to evidence-based practice.

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership experience within a public healthcare setting.

  • Experience analysing clinical data and information to evaluate services and implement improvements.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
