Job summary

Modbury Hospital, part of Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), is expanding its ophthalmology team and inviting applications for Ophthalmology RMO positions for a January 2027 intake. Contracts run through 30 January 2028 with multiple vacancies across the NALHN facilities in Adelaide's north.

You will work under consultant ophthalmologists delivering inpatient and outpatient ophthalmology care, participate in surgical exposure, and contribute to after-hours on-call coverage while

About the Role

Modbury Hospital is expanding its ophthalmology team and inviting applications from motivated Resident Medical Officers ready to build their surgical and clinical foundations in a supportive, community-focused health network. With multiple positions available for a January 2027 intake and contracts running through to 30 January 2028, this is a genuine opportunity to gain structured ophthalmology exposure within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN).

Your Role at Modbury Hospital

Based at Modbury Hospital in Adelaide's northern suburbs, you will work within a dedicated ophthalmology unit delivering care to a diverse patient population. Reporting to consultant ophthalmologists, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing inpatient and outpatient clinical assessment and management under consultant supervision
• Assisting in theatre and procedural settings, developing hands‑on surgical exposure
• Contributing to after‑hours on‑call coverage as rostered across the unit
• Supporting accurate clinical documentation and effective communication across the multidisciplinary team

What You'll Bring

• Primary medical degree with current or eligible AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
• Eligibility to work at the RMO level within the SA Health system for the 2027 clinical year
• A demonstrated interest in ophthalmology or surgical specialties
• Strong clinical reasoning and the ability to perform effectively in a supervised hospital environment
• Clear, respectful communication with patients, families, and colleagues across NALHN sites

As per the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Medical Practitioner will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

To be eligible for this position, you must have a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.

The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.
