Job summary

Sims Limited is seeking an Operator to join our recycling facility in a permanent afternoon shift. You will operate a range of mobile plant including forklifts and excavators, sorting and processing ferrous and non‑ferrous metals. Unloading, storage, and dispatch duties support daily operations.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and proactive maintenance of a clean, compliant yard environment. Flexibility and strong work ethic are essential for success.

• Identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
• Support general yard duties and other operational activities as required.
• Provide customer service and maintain positive relationships with drivers, customers, contractors & visitors to site.

Operator

Reporting to the Yard Supervisor, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of our recycling facility. This is a permanent afternoon shift position, with working hours generally 12:00pm to 8:00pm, however flexibility is required as finish times may vary based on operational requirements.

In this hands‑on role, you will operate a variety of mobile plant and equipment, including material handlers, excavators and forklifts, to sort, grade, and process ferrous and non‑ferrous metals.

You will also support the day‑to‑day running of the yard by assisting with the unloading of materials, maintaining site housekeeping standards, and contributing to a safe, productive, and well‑organised work environment.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you will ensure all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures, environmental requirements, and quality standards.

What You'll Be Doing

• Unload trucks, skip bins, and trailers safely and efficiently.
• Operate a range of mobile plant and equipment, including forklifts, material handlers, loaders, and excavators.
• Grade, sort, and process ferrous and non‑ferrous metals in line with operational, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Assist with the receival, processing, storage, and dispatch of recyclable materials.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment through effective housekeeping practices.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, safety, and operational policies and procedures.
• Proactively identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Assist with general yard duties and support other operational activities as required.
• Provide customer service and maintain positive relationships with drivers, customers, contractors, and visitors to the site.

What You'll Bring
