Job summary

Tranzworks, a Melbourne-based palletised freight transport provider, seeks an Operations & HSEQ Manager to lead day-to-day operations and own Safety, Chain of Responsibility and compliance. You will manage a team, ensure timely pickups/deliveries and drive safety culture across the business.

This senior, hands-on role requires proven transport operations management experience, strong CoR/NHVR knowledge and a focus on continuous improvement and team leadership.

Qualifications

• Proven transport operations management or senior supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of CoR, NHVR regulations and fatigue management.
• Experience in HSEQ, incident management and safety systems in a transport environment.
• Demonstrated leadership and change management abilities.
• Excellent organisation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day transport operations and ensure processes, checks and deadlines are met.
• Coach, mentor and performance-manage direct reports (monthly 1:1s).
• Lead awareness and application of Chain of Responsibility, Fatigue Management, NHVR regulations and transport legislation.
• Collaborate with recruitment on fleet requirements and driver onboarding.
• Oversee daily reporting and data entry accuracy and allocations.
• Build strong relationships with drivers, clients and internal stakeholders.
• Oversee fatigue management processes to reduce breaches.
• Ensure hazards and incidents are reported, investigated and closed per procedures.
• Participate in Safety Committee meetings and risk assessments; lead safety and compliance projects.

Operations & HSEQ Manager – Transport & Logistics

Tranzworks is a leading provider of palletised freight transport in Melbourne. We have been operating since 2006 and run a fleet of 120+ vehicles for major national customers. We’re looking for an experienced transport leader to take ownership of our day-to-day operations and lead every aspect of Safety, Chain of Responsibility and Compliance.

This is a senior, hands‑on role for someone who can run a busy operation without ever compromising on safety, and who can lift team culture and morale while doing it.

About the Role

You’ll report to the State Manager and lead a team of eight. You’ll be responsible for making sure all pickups and deliveries are managed and carried out to meet delivery timeframes and client demands.

You will also be the business lead for HSEQ.

Key responsibilities include:

• Overseeing and managing day‑to‑day transport operations and making sure all processes, checks and deadlines are met
• Coaching, mentoring and performance‑managing direct reports, including monthly 1:1s
• Leading awareness and application of Chain of Responsibility, Fatigue Management, NHVR regulations and relevant transport legislation
• Working with the recruitment team on fleet requirements, and supporting driver onboarding, retention and vehicle‑on‑road numbers
• Overseeing daily reporting and the accuracy of data entry and allocations
• Building strong relationships with drivers, clients and internal stakeholders
• Overseeing fatigue management processes to reduce breaches
• Making sure hazards and incidents are reported, investigated and closed out in line with Tranzworks procedures
• Participating in Safety Committee meetings and risk assessments, and leading Safety and Compliance projects

Key Requirements

• Proven experience in a transport operations management or senior supervisory role
• Strong working knowledge of CoR, NHVR regulations and fatigue management (Standard Hours)
• Experience in HSEQ, incident management and safety systems in a transport environment
• Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience leading change and building team culture
• Exceptional organisation skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure and meet deadlines
• High level of customer service and communication skills
• A continuous improvement mindset and a growth mentality
• Experience with a TMS (Despatch master highly regarded)
