Job summary

Amentum is seeking an Operations Coordinator for Defence Naval Operations in NSW. The role focuses on planning, coordinating and delivering maritime exercises, with responsibility for documentation, facilities, and stakeholder engagement across Fleet and allied units.

The OPSCO will support exercise design and execution, translate operational requirements into training environments, and liaise with Defence partners to ensure secure access and successful delivery of activities.

Operations Coordinator | Defence Naval Operations

Tell me about this role:

The operations Coordinator (OPSCO) is a subject matter expert in the administration and organisation of unit level maritime operations. The OPSCO will be required to support several activities to deliver to Fleet and supporting and participating Units for pre and post activities. Some activities may be but not limited to are:

  • During the exercise design phase, the OPSCO will undertake generate specialised operational documents to rigorous requirements
  • Collate, format and produce documents to high editorial accuracy and presentation standards
  • Undertake critical analysis to operational input, ensuring the documents generated are accurate in the exercise context
  • Manage an electronic library to collect/collate and store exercise products for future use or review
  • Liaise with exercise participants to ensure their requirements for successful exercise execution are in place
  • Engage with external support agencies as required to ensure deliverables are achieved in accordance with the requirements of the exercise
  • Coordinate and liaise closely with the training audience and supporting agencies to ensure participants have appropriate access to facilities and logins to communication systems
  • Liaise regularly with the Exercise Director to ensure clear communication flow is achieved
Outcomes:

The OPSCO will be required to support exercise design, and execution of collective training by effectively engaging with Joint and Combined stakeholders in concert with Fleet and supporting and participating Units with the below listed outcomes-based activities:

  • Collect RAN operator inputs and shape into specific exercise architectures to meet Fleet Battle Lab requirements
  • Oversee the setup and management of facilities ensuring appropriate IT is in place and that a robust execution process is communicated to all stakeholders Exercise phases
  • Exercise planning and execution is to be delivered upon for both pre and post activities
  • Translate operational requirements into training environments for successful training purposes
  • Australian Defence Force and Allied security structures and security sensitivities are managed correctly during exercises design and execution
  • Exercise schedule of events (SOE) and the battle rhythm (BR) to be developed with all key parties
  • Documentation and training is presented and collated in an effective manner to achieve and meet all required training outcomes
  • Coordinate with military planners, logistics and communication teams to ensure appropriate requirements are in place to enable the execution of the SOE and BR
  • Assess capability readiness and support transition and introduction into service activities
  • Manage technical risks and provide practical engineering solutions to complex problems
  • Work collaboratively with Defence stakeholders, project managers, military units, logistics specialists, and industry partners
  • Participate in technical reviews, governance forums, acceptance testing, and engineering assurance activities
  • Ensure engineering outcomes comply with Defence standards, regulations, and technical governance requirements
  • Contribute to capability enhancements, upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives
What sort of skills do I need?

  • Advanced level leadership skills
  • Deep understanding of operational art and an ability to translate that into an effective training environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally at Commonwealth request
  • Work harmoniously in small teams with effective communication and collaborative skills
