Job summary

NSW Health is seeking a temporary full-time Ops Assist role at Westmead to support perioperative services. You will help move patients, maintain operating suite cleanliness, and assist with room turnover under nurse and surgeon guidance.

The role requires physical capability, infection control knowledge, and the ability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays. Benefits include superannuation and other allowances.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills—written and verbal.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member and take directions from supervisors.
• Demonstrated portering and hospital cleaning experience.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as pushing/pulling wheeled equipment and beds.
• Knowledge of infection control standards and cleaning of patient areas.
• Ability to prioritise and multitask in a busy environment.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Support perioperative services to ensure safe, timely patient movement and care within the operating suite and recovery ward.
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness in Operating Suite, Recovery ward, Middleton and CSSD areas.
• Assist operating rooms with patient care and positioning under supervision.
• Collaborate with nursing, surgical and anaesthetic teams to facilitate patient throughput.

To assist within the Operating Rooms with patient care and positioning as directed by Registered Nurse, Surgeon or Anaesthetist.

• Demonstrated previous portering and cleaning experience in a hospital setting.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of this position, such as push, or pull mobile waste bins, patient beds and trolleys frequently.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of infection control standards, willing to clean room/areas that have been occupied by patients with possible or confirmed infections.
• Ability to prioritise and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability and willingness to work shifts, on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
