Job summary

NSW Health in Broken Hill is seeking a Nurse Unit Manager Level 3 to lead the nursing and multidisciplinary team in a rural health setting. You will oversee patient flow, unit operations and clinical governance, driving high standards of care with a focus on the community served.

The NUM will bring five-plus years of post‑graduate nursing experience, AHPR A registration, and strong leadership. A supportive environment, professional development and rural lifestyle are highlighted in the offer.

Qualifications

• Current nursing/midwifery registration with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to negotiate resolutions and manage conflict.
• Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate a vision for nursing services in a critical care environment.
• Focus on service excellence; read and act on issues quickly with professional integrity and accountability.
• Tertiary qualifications in nursing and/or health management with minimum of five years post-graduate nursing experience.
• Ability to manage human, physical and financial resources of the unit to deliver safe care.
• Ability to lead, coach and mentor others through change in a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated computer literacy using NSW Health applications (word processing, Excel, databases).

This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under theNSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.

This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

What you’ll be doing

The purpose of the Nursing Unit Manager is to manage, lead and organise the nursing and wider multi-disciplinary team to enable good patient flow process.

• Lead and co-ordinate the nursing and multi-disciplinary care team at the ward or unit level.
• Monitor and manage the business and management functions and processes of the ward or unit.
• As the leader of the unit, the NUM will demonstrate their capability through attitude, skills, behaviour, and attributes.
• Demonstrate broad nursing/midwifery experience and knowledge.
• Understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery.
• Demonstrate professional integrity; ethical conduct, accountability, advocacy, enabling others.
• Cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective teamwork.

• Current nursing/midwifery registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, excellent written, verbal communication skills and ability to negotiate resolutions and manage conflict.
• Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture and articulate and achieve a vision for nursing services in the critical care environment.
• Demonstrated focus on service excellence through the ability to read and act on issues quickly, decisively and effectively. Demonstrated ability to apply and share professional expertise to enhance patient/client care. Demonstrated ability to guide others to analyse problems and apply a range of solutions. Tertiary qualifications in nursing and/or health management with minimum of five years post graduate nursing clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the unit are managed to deliver safe and efficient health care within available resources.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, coach, mentor, encourage and guide others to enable them to reach their full potential and effectively adapt to ongoing change within a multidisciplinary group with broad clinical experience and knowledge.
• Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use a variety of NSW Health computer applications (e.g. word processing, excel and databases).
